We stopped again at Dyfi when we spotted the brown sign for a 'Ffwrnais' - what??? Turns out it is an old charcoal-burning Iron Furnace that was built in the 1700s. The Dyfi Furnace has been restored and signs explain how it was used for smelting iron ore.
